With the help of people like you, we work to make sure girls at risk across the world get to go to school so they can help transform their own life and their community. When a girl is educated and knows her rights, she’s twice as likely to send her own children to school. When you sponsor a girl, ensuring that they have access to education through our child sponsorship programs is one of our main goals.

Protect girls from harm and abuse

Every minute, 24 girls are married before reaching adulthood. We work with parents and communities to train, inform and support them to improve girls' rights. When you sponsor a girl, you're helping us to protect vulnerable girls from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage, changing today’s lives and the future lives of young girls around the world.

Girls' health

Because of their periods, girls are missing out on a week of school every month. This is due to stigma causing embarrassment, and not being able to afford the resources they need to be comfortable, known as period poverty. We help schools to provide appropriate toilets, run clubs for parents and boys and girls to end the stigma, and help girls learn about female health and periods. Sponsoring a girl ensures they're empowered to retain their dignity and take charge of their education and stay in school.

Girls are empowered

We make sure girls have a voice from a young age so they are able to help shape what happens in their community. Lizbeth, pictured here, is a former sponsored child who is now a sixth year medical student. She hopes to specialise in paediatrics and help the most vulnerable children

Income

Families who can earn their own income are more free and better able to afford to send their daughters to school. We train women in skills such as farming, set up savings groups and help them to start businesses. Miradi, pictured above, is a 16-year-old from DRC. Thanks to child sponsorship, World Vision was able to support her family to set up a business making and selling cassava bread. Her parents use this money to buy essentials and pay for Miradi's school fees.
