Prayers for Myanmar and Thailand
Join us in prayer for all those affected by the earthquake.
A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Sagaing region of Myanmar at around 1:30 PM local time (6:30 AM UK), impacting communities and putting millions of children and families at risk.
The Myanmar earthquake was felt across the region, including in Thailand, where residents in Bangkok and surrounding areas experienced significant tremors. At least four aftershocks have followed, deepening fear and uncertainty.
World Vision's CEO, Fola Komolafe MBE, shared: “We are devasted to hear the news in Myanmar this morning and are praying deeply for minimal impact on the families and children and our colleagues living in the region.”
World Vision has been working in Myanmar for over three decades and remains here now, assessing the full scale of the disaster and how best to respond. You can donate to our urgent appeal here.
In this critical moment, please stand with us in prayer for the children and families affected.
Pray with us for Myanmar and Thailand
For those who have lost loved ones
Heavenly Father, we lift up all those grieving in the aftermath of the earthquake in Myanmar, as well as those in Thailand who have felt its impact. For those who have lost family and friends, and for those still waiting anxiously for news, we ask for your comfort and strength. In their pain and uncertainty, be their refuge. Surround them with love and support, and may they know the peace that only you can give.
For those who have lost homes
Lord, we pray for the many people whose homes have been destroyed or who have been forced to flee to safety. We pray especially for children who are scared and vulnerable – may they find warmth, safety, and reassurance in the midst of chaos.
For those responding with aid and rescue
Lord God, we thank you for the brave rescue workers and medical teams already responding. Strengthen them as they search for survivors and treat the injured. We pray for aid workers and local communities offering help – may they have the resources and resilience they need. Remove any barriers that would slow down relief efforts, and guide their hands to those who need them most.
For the world’s response
Lord, we pray for world leaders as they decide how to respond. We pray that you stir each of our hearts in generosity towards the people of Myanmar, Thailand, and surrounding countries.
Amen.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
(Psalm 46:1 NIV)
